Innovative
Remediation Development
for Orphan Oil Producing Sites
ALL and research partners
including the Kansas Corporation Commission
and Kansas Biological Survey were selected
by the Department of Energy to research new
and innovative remediation technologies
at abandoned oil & gas producing sites.
For the project, research is being conducted
at a 70 year old abandoned oil producing in
Butler County, Kansas. The site is typical
of many early oil & gas development sites
throughout the central United States, having
obvious land impacts from oilfield brines
and hydrocarbons. ALL is researching phyto-remediation
and micro-biological techniques for site restoration
and preparation for potential future land
uses.
