ALL Consulting To Begin Study and Installation of Downhole Oil/Water Separator In The Nation Of Oman

TULSA, Oklahoma, May 2, 2002 - ALL Consulting has received approval to begin a feasibility study and supervise installation of a Downhole Oil/Water Separator (DOWS) project in the nation of Oman from Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), which is the Oman National Oil Company.

"DOWS is a Sustainable Development technology that can significantly improve oil economics while reducing salt water liabilities at the surface." Stated Dr. Bruce Langhus of ALL Consulting. Additionally, Dr. Langhus added, "using this technology in US and Canadian test installations, average daily oil production increased more than 100%, while decreasing water production by 85%." Dan Arthur, President of ALL Consulting, noted: "This DOWS work is an outcome of our research with Argonne National Lab that was funded by the National Petroleum Technology Office of the U.S. Department of Energy in Tulsa. This project will bring environmental benefits to the country of Oman and contribute to the economic development of Oman's vast oil reserves."

A relatively new technology, downhole oil/water separators have been developed to reduce the cost of handling produced water. DOWS separates oil and gas from produced water at the bottom of the well and reinjects the majority of the produced water into another formation or another horizon within the same formation, while the oil and gas are pumped to the surface. Additionally, simultaneous injection using DOWS minimizes the opportunity for contamination of underground sources of drinking water during the disposal process. . "Downhole separation and simultaneous disposal may be a suitable option for managing produced water in the Powder River Basin", added the Dr. Langhus.
